Life Corporation targets Albis acquisition to expand regional presence

Life Corporation, a major food supermarket operator, has detailed its strategy regarding the ongoing tender offer to acquire Albis. During a financial results briefing on October 8, Life Corporation President Takaji Iwasaki stated that the acquisition aims to build a competitive advantage in the Hokuriku and Chukyo regions.

The company expects to create synergies through unified procurement of food and materials, enhanced buying power, and the sharing of marketing expertise and seafood procurement capabilities. Life Corporation intends to maintain Albis’s existing customer relationships and regional food culture while focusing on value-added differentiation rather than simple price competition.

The tender offer is priced at 3,780 yen per share and is scheduled to run until November 10, with an estimated acquisition cost of approximately 26.3 billion yen. Life Corporation plans to acquire 83.38% of Albis shares. For the interim period ending in October, Life Corporation reported operating revenue of 450 billion yen, a 2.1% increase year-on-year, though operating profit fell 6.4% to 12.4 billion yen due to rising personnel and rent costs.
