LIFEGATE lung cancer screening program launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Primary‑care doctors in the Hercegovačko‑Neretvanska County were trained on a new lung‑cancer early‑detection screening model coordinated by the University Clinical Hospital Mostar. The programme, part of the EU‑funded cross‑border LIFEGATE project, uses a novel digital risk‑assessment app, www.reagiraj.ba, to identify individuals at heightened risk despite lacking symptoms. Physicians now direct patients to complete a short online questionnaire; the algorithm provides a risk score and, for high‑risk cases, an automatic referral to a pulmonologist with appointment details. The initiative aims to shorten the time from risk assessment to specialist care and improve early diagnosis of lung cancer.
The training was overseen by project coordinator Prof. Žana Martinović and featured presentations by Prof. Kristina Galić and Doc. Dr. Krešimir Tomić. Participants expressed strong approval of the collaborative model and the digital tools that streamline patient pathways.
