Lifestyle and obesity linked to 13 types of cancer risk

Scientific evidence indicates that obesity and certain lifestyle factors can significantly increase the risk of developing at least 13 types of cancer. These include esophageal adenocarcinoma, post-menopausal breast cancer, colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, gallbladder cancer, gastric cardia cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer, meningioma, and multiple myeloma.

According to data from the IARC and the CDC, these neoplasms represent a substantial portion of annual diagnoses. The risk is driven by mechanisms such as chronic inflammation, hormonal alterations, and insulin resistance caused by excess adipose tissue. However, many of these risks can be mitigated through evidence-based strategies, including maintaining an appropriate weight, regular physical activity, and healthy dietary choices that support a healthy gut microbiota.
