Lifestyle habits linked to cholesterol management and dementia prevention

Recent health insights suggest that evening routines and daytime habits can significantly impact long-term wellness. Registered dietitian Lindsay Desoto notes that simple evening activities, such as a 10 to 20-minute walk after dinner, can help lower triglycerides and improve good cholesterol (HDL) levels. Additionally, avoiding unhealthy late-night snacks high in sugar and saturated fats, while prioritizing relaxation techniques like reading or meditation, can support cardiovascular health.

Regarding cognitive health, a study published in ‘The Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences’ indicates that frequent daytime napping may be a modifiable factor associated with dementia risk in older adults. Researcher Kenning Jiang from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health highlighted that while dementia remains a leading cause of loss of independence, addressing changeable lifestyle factors may help in prevention. Maintaining adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and mental stimulation are also cited as key preventative measures.
