Lifestyle medicine highlighted as key for managing diabetes and blood pressure

Lifestyle medicine is being highlighted as a significant tool for managing chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Nutritionist and lifestyle coach Lisette de Jong noted at a recent congress that dietary changes—specifically increasing fiber and reducing carbohydrates and sugars—combined with increased physical activity, can lead to improved blood sugar levels and potentially reduce the need for medication.

In Maassluis, the Leefstijlloket Maassluis is supporting local health initiatives by hosting a free Healthy Lifestyle Workshop at the de Plataan Library on September 24. The workshop aims to provide practical guidance on nutrition, exercise, sleep, and relaxation, focusing on small, sustainable changes that individuals can implement in their daily lives to improve long-term vitality.
