Universidad Católica and Liga de Quito draw 2-2 in Copa Ecuador semifinal

Universidad Católica and Liga de Quito played to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Copa Ecuador semifinals at the Banco Guayaquil stadium. José Fajardo opened the scoring for Universidad Católica in the 14th minute following a play involving Emiliano Clavijo.

Liga de Quito responded in the second half, with Marcelo Weigandt equalizing in the 76th minute and Lucas Rodríguez scoring in the 95th minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. However, Universidad Católica secured a draw in stoppage time when Azarías Londoño converted a penalty in the 97th minute after a foul by Ricardo Adé.

The second leg is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, at 19:00 at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium in Quito. The winner of this series will advance to the final to face the winner of the matchup between Independiente del Valle and Delfín. The winner of the Copa Ecuador will earn a spot in the preliminary phase of the 2027 Copa Libertadores.
