Liga de Quito continues coach search amid economic constraints

Liga de Quito is seeking a new head coach following the departure of Brazilian Tiago Nunes. Interim manager Patricio Hurtado is overseeing the team while the club evaluates candidates such as Reinaldo Rueda, Rubén Darío Insúa, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, Diego Cocca and former Barcelona SC champion Gustavo Costas.

Rumors linked Costas to the job, but the club’s director of sport, Eduardo Álvarez, said, "we have conversations with several coaches because a name can serve both the current moment and a future occasion, but we are conditioned by the current economic situation." Costas reportedly declined the offer because his salary demands exceeded Liga de Quito’s budget, leaving the club to continue scouting other options. The new coach is expected to improve the team’s performance in the domestic LigaPro and the Copa Libertadores.

The club aims to finalize the appointment after a scheduled visit to Barcelona SC, with officials emphasizing the need for a coach who can support the club’s youth development and bring rigor to the squad.
