Liga Mexicana de Beisbol playoff race tightens as teams chase magic numbers

With roughly three weeks remaining in the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol regular season, the race for the Serie del Rey is becoming clear. Toros de Tijuana sit atop the Zona Norte at 49‑21, holding the lowest magic number of five and a league‑best pitching staff. In the Zona Sur, Diablos Rojos del México lead with Trevor Bauer on the mound, while Olmecas de Tabasco sit second.

Caliente de Durango has emerged as a surprise contender, posting a 38‑33 record and a magic number of 15, marking the franchise's first playoff appearance since 1978. Other teams still in contention include Acereros de Monclova, Charros de Jalisco and Sultanes de Monterrey, each fighting for the remaining spots as the schedule tightens.

The magic‑number system, which decreases with each win or opponent loss, now determines which clubs will secure postseason berths. The final weeks will see key series between the leading clubs, with the outcome deciding the playoff field for the upcoming Serie del Rey.
