Liga Mexicana de Béisbol playoff race heats up as season closes

With about 15 games left in the regular season, most of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol's 20 clubs remain in contention for the six playoff spots in the league's North and South zones. The Diablos Rojos del México sit atop the South zone at 53‑25, riding a 13‑game winning streak and holding an eight‑game lead that virtually assures a top seed. Behind them, the Olmecas de Tabasco (45‑33) and Pericos de Puebla (40‑36) are still within striking distance, each benefiting from schedules that feature only lower‑ranked opponents.

The 2026 campaign, the 101st edition of the league, will conclude its regular schedule on 6 August, with the postseason beginning three days later on 9 August. This season introduces an Automated Balls‑and‑Strikes (ABS) system powered by Trackman radar, the first such implementation among Latin American professional baseball leagues. Teams have been active in the July transfer window, with notable moves such as pitcher Miguel Castro leaving the Leones de Yucatán and outfielder Moisés Gómez joining the roster, influencing the final playoff picture.

The postseason format features zone series starting 19 August and championship series on 29 August, culminating in the traditional Serie del Rey.
