Club América prepares for LA Galaxy friendly, unveils new official ball and eyes James Rodríguez

Club América will face MLS side LA Galaxy in a pre‑season friendly on Saturday 11 July at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles, kicking off at 20:30 CST. Coach Guillermo Almada named a 22‑player squad, noting the absence of Israel Reyes, Sebastián Cáceres, Alejandro Zendejas and Brian Rodríguez, who are on vacation after the World Cup, as well as injured players Ángel Malagón and Víctor Dávila.

Liga MX announced the Aereus 40 Pro III as the official match ball for the 2026‑2027 season. Produced by Mexican firm Voit, the ball features a white base with black, blue and yellow accents, seam‑less thermally‑sealed panels and FIFA Quality Pro certification, while new referee uniforms were also unveiled.

Reports indicate the club is also monitoring a possible return of Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez. Following his free‑agent status after leaving Minnesota United, América has conducted preliminary inquiries but no formal offer has been made. Rodriguez has expressed interest in living and playing in Mexico City, and the club’s hierarchy is evaluating the option ahead of the Apertura 2026.
