Liga Universitária de Boxe launches competition for eight São Paulo universities

The Liga Universitária de Boxe (LUB) has introduced a new boxing competition involving eight higher education institutions in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Participating universities include Mackenzie (Law and CCSA), the University of São Paulo (FFLCH, Poli, and the School of Physical Education), UFABC, Unicamp, and FADISP.

Managed by the Associação João Mendes Juniors de Boxe and co-founded by Marcos Colangelo Filho, the league aims to provide a structured competitive environment for student athletes. Colangelo Filho noted that while boxing has grown in popularity, it has previously struggled to consolidate within the university setting due to a lack of training facilities and organized competitive opportunities.

Following a successful demonstration edition last year, the upcoming competition will feature five athletes representing each of the eight universities. Points will be awarded to institutions based on victories, following a format reminiscent of historical regional collegiate tournaments.
