Light Flip minimalist phone slated for 2027 launch

Technology company Light unveiled the Light Flip, a flip‑style handset that deliberately omits social‑media apps, a web browser and other typical smartphone distractions. The device runs LightOS, a stripped‑down version of Android offering only core tools such as calls, SMS, calendar, alarm, a music/podcast player and basic navigation.

The phone features a 2.8‑inch OLED display, a physical T9 keypad, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, a 50‑megapixel rear camera, 5G, Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and a replaceable 1800 mAh battery. It is priced at US$299, with pre‑orders now open and first shipments expected in April 2027. Buyers can reserve a unit with a US$39 deposit. Light also launched a nine‑month "Flip Your Life" digital‑detox program and an open‑source developer ecosystem that prohibits monetisation of apps.

The company’s founders, Joe Hollier and Kaivej Tang, said the phone targets adults aged 18‑30 who want to reduce screen time. The Light Flip will be sold in six colours and supports both nano‑SIM and eSIM.
