The Light brand has unveiled the Light Flip phone, a clamshell handset built around a minimal‑distraction operating system called LightOS. The device excludes all social‑media apps, web browsers and other addictive services, offering only essential tools such as calls, texts, navigation, a music player, calendar and weather.

Key specifications include a 2.8‑inch monochrome OLED display with a non‑touch keypad, MediaTek MT8873 processor, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, a 50‑megapixel rear camera, 5G, Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, a 1,800 mAh battery, USB‑C charging, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and IP54 dust‑and‑splash protection. The phone sells for $299 (about £220) globally, with a two‑year contract option offering $39 per month for data and unlimited calls. A developer program invites creators to build open‑source, distraction‑free apps for LightOS.

The launch coincides with the UK government’s plan to ban social‑media access for under‑16s starting May 2027, positioning the Light Flip as a hardware‑first solution to the upcoming policy change.
