Lighting design and color temperature guide for home interiors
Effective home lighting involves both aesthetic design and technical considerations regarding color temperature. High-end design pieces, such as the Torre lamp by Carol Gay for Bertolucci or the Garoa floor lamp by Cris Bertolucci, utilize materials like carbon steel, gold-toned metallic paint, and hand-blown Murano-style glass to serve as visual decor even when turned off.
Beyond aesthetics, the Kelvin (K) scale determines the light's tone. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lower Kelvin values produce warmer, yellowish light, such as 2,700K, which is ideal for creating cozy environments in living rooms and bedrooms. Higher values, starting around 4,000K, produce cooler, whiter, or bluish light more suitable for workspaces. The Kelvin rating indicates color temperature rather than light intensity, meaning two bulbs can have the same brightness but vastly different atmospheric effects.
