Lightning forces shutdown of cable cars in Madonna di Campiglio and Val di Zoldo

On the afternoon of 6 August, a lightning strike damaged the control unit of the cabinovia that links Madonna di Campiglio with Grostè in the Trentino Alps. The lift stopped abruptly; technicians quickly engaged a thermal engine to move the system at reduced speed and evacuated the passengers to the valley. No injuries were reported.

A day earlier, a violent thunderstorm activated the safety system of the Seggiovia Palafavera in Val di Zoldo, halting the lift while a family and two dogs were still on board. Rescue teams reached the site and safely brought everyone down. Again, no one was hurt. Both incidents underscore the effectiveness of emergency procedures and safety protocols for mountain lift operations in Italy.
