Venture firm Lightspeed announced the hiring of Claire Zau, a tech‑focused investor and social‑media creator with over 250,000 Instagram followers. Zau, known for breaking down tech trends, joined after a direct message on Instagram caught the attention of partners Josh Machitz and Zau.

The firm said the move reflects a growing trend of venture firms using new media to reach early founders and the broader public. Zau co‑hosts the Lightspeed podcast "Lightwork" with Machitz, aiming to give startups more accessible storytelling channels as traditional journalism declines.

Zau noted, "A lot of people want to participate in the future and are excited about technology, but they don’t have the facts presented in an accessible way." She also described receiving real‑time feedback from Gen Z audiences as "humbling," highlighting how social media can shape investment narratives.
