LIGHTSUM member Han Chowon undergoes stylistic transformation for Japanese debut

Han Chowon, a member of the K-pop group LIGHTSUM, has drawn significant attention for her stylistic transformation as the group prepares for a major Japanese debut. Chowon first gained prominence as a trainee on the 2018 Mnet survival show ‘PRODUCE 48’. While she was initially announced as finishing in 13th place, subsequent court findings revealed she had actually finished sixth but was a victim of the show’s ranking manipulation.

Following her time on the show, Chowon remained with Cube Entertainment and debuted with LIGHTSUM in 2021. As part of the group’s transition toward a traditional Japanese idol aesthetic, documented in the ABEMA series ‘Re:Idol’, the 24-year-old has adopted a ‘kawaii’ look characterized by softer makeup, elaborate hairstyles, and ribbons. LIGHTSUM is scheduled to release their Japanese debut mini-album, ‘Re:idol’, on September 23.
