Lignano Sabbiadoro earns 37th consecutive Blue Flag for beaches and marina
On 27 July 2026, the resort Riviera in Lignano Sabbiadoro hosted a ceremony awarding the town its 37th consecutive Blue Flag. The flag, granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education, recognises the beach and nearby tourist ports for meeting strict criteria on bathing water quality, waste management, sewage treatment, sustainable mobility, safety and environmental education.
Local officials – Mayor Laura Giorgi, Vice‑Mayor Manuel Massimiliano La Placa, assessor Marina Bidin and councilor Massimo Brini – joined regional leaders, including Regional Council President Mauro Bordin and councilor Maddalena Spagnolo, to receive the flag. Scientists from ARPA FVG and the National Institute of Oceanography presented monitoring data confirming excellent water quality after recent heat waves. The award was highlighted as a testament to sustained environmental standards, collaborative effort among authorities, operators and citizens, and a boost for the town’s tourism reputation.
