Ligue 180 reports 14.7% increase in gender violence reports in Brazil

Brazil's Ligue 180 helpline recorded over 1 million total contacts between January 1 and July 31, 2026. Of these interactions, 98,705 were classified as reports of gender-based violence, representing a 14.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Data from the Ministry of Women indicates that the majority of violence reports fall under the Maria da Penha Law. Domestic settings are the primary locations for these incidents, accounting for 71.7% of reports, occurring either in the victim's home or a shared residence. Psychological violence was the most frequently reported type of abuse, followed by domestic violence, physical violence, moral violence, and patrimonial violence.

While reports of violence increased, the vast majority of the service's total volume—approximately 84.22%—consisted of requests for information regarding protection networks, service operations, and women's policies. State-level data shows the highest volume of service contacts in São Paulo, followed by Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
