Liguria economic report highlights shipbuilding growth and rising energy risks

Economic reports for the Liguria region highlight both significant industrial strength and growing vulnerabilities for small businesses.

The shipbuilding and nautical sector in the Genoa and Savona–Vado Ligure areas has reached a production value of approximately 2 billion euros in 2024. This sector employs over 10,000 people directly and indirectly, contributing 500 million euros in added value. While the industry shows strong international vocation and growth, it faces challenges regarding infrastructure saturation and the need for qualified personnel.

Conversely, micro-enterprises and artisanal workshops in Genoa are facing rising operational risks due to the cold season. CNA Genova e Liguria warns that volatility in gas and fuel prices could impose extra heating costs exceeding 4,500 euros on small businesses. This financial pressure threatens the stability of local economic fabrics and the investment capacity of neighborhood shops.
