Liguria rises to sixth place in Italian seaside tourism rankings
Liguria has risen to sixth place in Italy's ranking of most appreciated seaside regions, according to the ‘Panorama Turismo-Mare Italia 2026’ report by the JFC observatory. The region gained four positions, earning 982 votes and placing behind Emilia-Romagna, Sardegna, Sicilia, Puglia, and Toscana.
Specific locations within Liguria showed notable performance. Alassio entered the national top 20, ranking 19th with 1,381 votes. Lerici was highlighted for relaxation and tranquility, while Varazze climbed eight positions in the same segment. Portofino, Alassio, and Varazze were also recognized for high-end seaside offerings.
Regional Councilor for Tourism and Territorial Marketing, Luca Lombardi, stated that the rise reflects Liguria's growing capacity to serve as a premier sea vacation destination, noting that modern visitors increasingly seek quality, services, and experiences beyond just beach stays.
On a national level, the report estimates that Italian coastal tourism will see nearly 407 million presences in 2026, a 4.8% increase from 2025. The total turnover for the sector is projected to reach nearly 34 billion euros, representing a 2.9% growth.
