Liguria seeks revision of Italian national health fund distribution
Liguria is advocating for a revision of the criteria used to distribute Italy’s national health fund. During a meeting of the Health Commission in Florence, regional leaders discussed the need to account for specific demographic and geographic characteristics when allocating resources.
Liguria President Marco Bucci expressed support for a proposal from Abruzzo aimed at protecting the interests of medium and small-sized regions. A key condition for Liguria is maintaining the original structure of the 'premial quota' to ensure regional balances are not disrupted.
Regional officials highlighted that Liguria’s unique needs stem from having one of the oldest populations in Italy and a diverse geography that spans from the coast to mountainous areas exceeding 1,800 meters. Health Councilor Massimo Nicolò noted that revising the distribution criteria could result in increased resources for twelve regions, including Liguria, by better addressing population aging and territorial layout.
