Italy weather alerts issued for multiple regions due to storm risks
Multiple regions across Italy are facing severe weather alerts due to incoming storms and hydrogeological risks.
In Liguria, an orange alert was issued for the central-eastern areas, leading to the closure of parks, cemeteries, and pedestrian underpasses in Genoa, though schools remained open. In Campania, a yellow alert is in effect, with warnings of sudden thunderstorms, hail, and potential flooding.
Sicily is also under significant weather pressure, with yellow alerts issued for Palermo, Catania, Messina, Trapani, Agrigento, Caltanissetta, and Enna. These alerts cover risks of hydrogeological and hydraulic instability through the weekend.
In Tuscany, Florence and surrounding areas are under yellow alerts for strong thunderstorms and potential flooding of minor watercourses. Meanwhile, the Marche region has issued warnings for instability and heavy rainfall expected to persist through Saturday.
Amidst these alerts, ANVA Confesercenti Toscana has called for a more nuanced approach to closing weekly markets, arguing that orange alerts should not trigger automatic closures without assessing local conditions to protect the livelihoods of street vendors.
