LikePlay streaming service expands to 177 countries
The Brazilian streaming service LikePlay Filmes e Séries has expanded its reach to 177 countries. Founded by director Pedro Pimentel in Campinas, the platform offers educational and family-oriented Brazilian content with subtitles available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
This expansion occurs amid a significant shift in the Brazilian media landscape. According to IBGE data, video-on-demand services reached 33.4 million Brazilian households in 2025, representing 44.4% of homes with televisions, while pay TV usage declined to a historic low of 23.5%.
The Brazilian streaming market is substantial, with Ancine reporting annual movements of approximately R$ 69.7 billion. While major international platforms dominate audience share, national services currently sustain a larger volume of domestic titles, with 3,906 Brazilian works available compared to the 6.3% found in the catalogs of the five largest platforms.
