LIKHA 5 exhibition showcases Filipino artistry and craftsmanship
The LIKHA 5: “Likha Ko, Lahi Ko” exhibition, spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady, recently opened to showcase traditional Filipino artistry and craftsmanship. The event featured handmade creations from over 100 artisans representing various regions across the country.
Among the participants were representatives from indigenous groups, such as the Tagoloanon tribe of Bukidnon. Artisan JoyRuth Tala-Palo highlighted the deep symbolism in her tribe’s handwoven fabrics and traditional attire, noting that specific colors represent bravery, protection, ancestral attitudes, justice, and womanhood. The exhibition also featured intricate weaponry and traditional crafts, such as the monochromatic hats and baskets of the Tau’t Bato tribe, which are created through a laborious smoking process known as “usok.”
Philippine First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos attended the opening as the guest of honor.
