Likud lawmaker Hanoch Milwidsky claims international law does not apply to Israel

Hanoch Milwidsky, a Member of Knesset from the Likud party, has stated that international laws binding other nations do not apply to Israel. In video remarks shared on social media, Milwidsky claimed that the Jewish people possess a divine calling and a special status that exempts them from the constraints imposed on other nations.

Milwidsky described the Jewish people as a ‘high people’ with a duty to create a ‘land of miracles and virtue,’ urging allegiance to religious authority while dismissing the perspectives of international diplomats and leaders.

These comments follow findings from various international bodies regarding Israeli actions. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion regarding Israel’s presence in occupied territories. Additionally, human rights organizations have accused Israel of violating international conventions, including allegations of apartheid and genocide in Gaza.
