Lil' Deb's Oasis restaurant to close in Hudson, New York
Lil' Deb's Oasis, an award-winning restaurant in Hudson, New York, is closing its doors permanently. Founded in 2016 by owners Halo Kaya Perez-Gallardo and Hannah Black, the eatery gained national recognition and James Beard Foundation honors for its pan-Latin and tropical comfort food.
The closure follows Perez-Gallardo’s late 2025 announcement that she intended to step away from daily operations and sell the business to preserve its legacy. However, the opportunity for a new steward was diminished after the building's landlord decided to sell the property.
Food critic Elazar Sontag described the closure as the loss of one of ‘America’s most important restaurants,’ noting its significance as a queer-run community sanctuary that influenced the broader inclusive food movement.
