Lil Durk faces federal murder-for-hire trial starting August 20

Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, is preparing for a federal murder-for-hire trial scheduled to begin with jury selection on August 20. The case involves allegations that Durk orchestrated a retaliatory shooting in August 2022 targeting rapper Quando Rondo following the 2020 death of King Von. During that incident, Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was killed instead.

Recent pretrial rulings by District Judge Michael Fitzgerald have determined the scope of evidence allowed. Admitted evidence includes music videos, such as the song “Pissed Me Off,” a 911 call, iCloud photos, and interviews with DJ Akademiks. Prosecutors also intend to present text messages allegedly showing Durk rejected a peace offering from Rondo’s camp, stating he was “not hopping on the phone to squash” the rivalry.

Defense attorneys have filed motions to dismiss certain stalking conspiracy counts, arguing the indictment fails to specify a particular victim. Durk has pleaded not guilty and faces potential life in prison if convicted. A significant legal victory for the defense occurred when the judge separated newly added racketeering and Chicago-related allegations from the Los Angeles murder-for-hire charges.
