Lil Durk racketeering trial delayed until 2027
Rapper Lil Durk and three codefendants must face a second trial together regarding a racketeering case. A judge ruled on September 30 that the trial for Durk, Deandre Wilson, David Lindsey, and Asa Houston will be delayed until August 2027.
The delay is due to the complexity of the case, the volume of discovery, and the number of defendants involved. The judge noted that it would be unreasonable to expect adequate preparation within the limits of the Speedy Trial Act. While Asa Houston successfully had his murder-for-hire case severed, he must still join the others for the racketeering proceedings.
This legal battle follows Durk’s acquittal in a murder-for-hire trial on September 11. In that previous case, prosecutors accused him of ordering a hit on Quando Rondo. While Durk was found not guilty, his codefendants Wilson and Lindsey were convicted of stalking and stalking conspiracy counts, though they were acquitted of the murder-for-hire charge and are currently appealing.
The upcoming trial involves charges under the federal Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering (VICAR) statute. Prosecutors allege that Durk’s record label, Only the Family (OTF), operated as a violent gang involved in various incidents across Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta.
