Lil Durk trial begins in Los Angeles over murder-for-hire charges

The federal murder-for-hire trial of rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, has commenced in Los Angeles. Banks faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and discharging a machine gun. Prosecutors allege that Banks orchestrated a 2022 ambush near the Beverly Center targeting rapper Quando Rondo as retaliation for the 2020 killing of his associate, King Von. The botched attack resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.

Jury selection has faced delays and complications. One prospective juror was dismissed after stating he believed the defendants looked guilty before evidence was presented. The selection process has also involved questioning potential jurors about their biases regarding “gangsta rap,” as prosecutors intend to use lyrics and social media content as evidence.

Banks has pleaded not guilty to all counts. If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence in federal prison. Meanwhile, authorities have clarified that a viral AI-generated image depicting the rapper with a shaved head in prison clothing is a forgery.
