Lil Durk murder-for-hire trial nears closing arguments

The federal murder-for-hire trial of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, has concluded its presentation of evidence. Banks is accused of orchestrating a 2022 shooting targeting rival rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the 2020 death of King Von. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Prosecutors presented several key pieces of evidence, including alleged text messages where Banks listed various individuals as “ops” and testimony from an admitted gunman who claimed Banks directed the operation. Additionally, the government argued that Banks attempted to flee the country via multiple international flight arrangements to Dubai shortly after learning of federal search warrants.

The defense has argued that Banks had no involvement in the crime, suggesting a co-defendant was the true mastermind. Testimony also included a former Alamo Records executive who described how provocative and controversial content was used as a marketing tool to drive revenue. Banks and his co-defendants declined to testify.

Closing arguments are scheduled to begin on September 8, following the Labor Day weekend. The jury will then begin deliberations to determine the outcome of the case.
