Lil Durk’s Murder‑for‑Hire Trial Prompts Big Meech’s Appeal to Hip‑Hop

During a June 21 Kick livestream, Black Mafia Family co‑founder Big Meech criticized the rap community for remaining silent about Chicago rapper Lil Durk’s federal murder‑for‑hire case and urged artists to shout “Free Durk.”

Durk has been held without bond since October 2024 after prosecutors allege he arranged a plot against rival rapper Quando Rondo that resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson. Durk denies the allegations. His attorney, Drew Findling, says support has come from unexpected quarters, including private messages from law‑enforcement personnel. The defense has filed a motion asking the court to separate newly added racketeering counts from the scheduled Aug 20 trial, arguing the late‑stage indictment overwhelms the defense and threatens a speedy‑trial right. A hearing on the motion is set for July 27.
