Lil Jon reveals final conversation with son Nathan Smith

Rapper and producer Lil Jon has shared details regarding his final telephone conversation with his son, Nathan Smith, who performed as DJ Young Slade. In excerpts from his memoir, ‘I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me’, the musician described an exchange focused on Nathan’s wellbeing and his efforts to overcome personal difficulties.

Nathan, 27, was found dead in Georgia on February 6, 2026, three days after being reported missing. His death was subsequently ruled an accidental drowning associated with psilocybin use.

Lil Jon recalled that during their last call, he encouraged his son to take care of himself, stating, ‘I’m on you because I love you. I care about you. I want you to get better.’ Nathan reportedly responded by asking for credit for the work he was doing to navigate his challenges, saying, ‘I’m getting there. I’ve been going through a lot. I’m working through it.’

Following the call, Nathan sent a message in the early hours of a Saturday expressing love and a desire to communicate better and overcome fear. Lil Jon noted that while the conversation ended on good terms, he felt as though something remained unsettled.
