Lili Engels addresses Nagelsmann interview controversy

ZDF presenter Lili Engels has spoken out regarding her widely discussed interview with former German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann. The interview took place following Germany's World Cup exit against Paraguay.

Engels noted that no real conversation occurred with Nagelsmann during the encounter, describing his reaction as visibly annoyed when she questioned his future plans and the team's travel arrangements.

Reflecting on the scrutiny she faced, Engels addressed the differing standards for women in sports broadcasting. She stated that women often feel they must prove themselves more rigorously to gain recognition, whereas professional competence is frequently assumed for men. While acknowledging that being a woman can sometimes make it easier to secure camera time, she emphasized that roles should be awarded based on merit rather than gender.
