Lille Braderie: Europe’s largest flea market to return in September

The Braderie de Lille, recognized as Europe’s largest flea market, is a major cultural event held in Lille, France. The upcoming edition is scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2026.

Tracing its origins back to the 12th century as a “franche foire”—a tax-free market for foreign merchants—the event has evolved into a massive popular festival. The market spans over 50 kilometers of stalls, primarily concentrated in the city center and the Vieux-Lille district.

Recent figures highlight the scale of the event, which attracts between 2 and 2.5 million visitors annually. More than 5,200 exhibitors participate, selling a wide variety of goods including clothing, antiques, toys, and books. Beyond shopping, the festival is known for its culinary traditions, specifically the consumption of approximately 500 tonnes of mussels and 30 tonnes of fries during the weekend.
