Lilly Italia marks 150th anniversary with major volunteer initiative
To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Lilly Italia organized its largest-ever Italian edition of the Global Day of Service. The initiative took place on September 23, 24, and 28 in Florence and Sesto Fiorentino.
Nearly 700 employees participated in 30 volunteer shifts across nine projects. These projects were developed in collaboration with nine non-profit organizations and social impact companies, including Casa Ronald McDonald, Legambiente, and United Way in Italy. The company invested over 100,000 euros in these efforts, which addressed areas such as food poverty, child protection, and mental health.
The event occurs amid shifting trends in Italian volunteerism. While Istat data shows that 4.7 million people (9.1% of the population over 15) volunteered in 2023, corporate-led volunteering is increasing. According to Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour, 75,550 companies offered employees opportunities for civic and social engagement in 2025, a 14% increase from the previous year.
