Lilly Téllez questions Sheinbaum's health following drug allegations
Mexican Senator Lilly Téllez has publicly questioned the physical and mental state of President Claudia Sheinbaum following allegations made by journalist Anabel Hernández regarding the President's purported use of marijuana to manage daily pressure.
Téllez, a member of the PAN party, stated in a video on X that while the allegations cannot be verified with certainty, the President exhibits an “erratic” manner of acting, characterized by a lethargic expression, fixed gaze, and nervous laughter. Téllez argued that because Sheinbaum is the Head of State, her physical and mental health is a matter of public interest rather than a private concern.
The Senator used the controversy to reiterate a legislative initiative she presented last year to amend Article 134 of the Constitution. The proposal seeks to mandate periodic and random toxicological examinations for all elected public officials, with the costs borne by the officials themselves and the results made public to ensure transparency.
