Lilly Wachowski reports Hollywood resistance to trans-led film

Filmmaker Lilly Wachowski has reported difficulties securing Hollywood financing for her upcoming project, ‘The Hunted’. The director stated that while executives express interest in the script, they have declined to fund the production because it features an entirely trans cast.

Written by Wachowski and Mickey Ray Mahoney, the film is described as a dystopian political thriller with an estimated budget of $10 million. The project is being developed by Wachowski’s production company, Anarchists United, in partnership with Ariadne, a company owned by Natasha Lyonne.

To build visibility and community, the team recently held a live dramatic reading of the script at the Dynasty Typewriter theater in Los Angeles. The event featured various artists and actors, including Alexandra Grey, River Gallo, and Brian Michael Smith, as part of an effort to find alternative ways to bring the story to the public.
