Lim Guan Eng challenges Zahid to remove UMNO from Penang government

DAP advisor Lim Guan Eng has challenged UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to demand that Pakatan Harapan (PH) remove UMNO from the Penang state government. This challenge follows recent statements by Ahmad Zahid, who suggested that the PH-led coalition should remove UMNO from the Federal Government in Putrajaya.

Lim noted that UMNO currently holds positions within the Penang State Executive Council, two local authorities, and state-linked companies. He argued that PH could still maintain a two-thirds majority in the Penang State Legislative Assembly even without the two UMNO representatives.

Lim further suggested that UMNO is taking advantage of perceived indecisiveness within the Penang PH leadership, particularly as UMNO maintains cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN). This political tension follows reports that UMNO has issued an ultimatum to the Unity Government to either hold the 16th General Election to regain a mandate or officially expel the party from the coalition.
