Lim Woo-jae receives suspended sentence for elderly assault case
The Supreme Court of Korea has finalized a suspended prison sentence for Lim Woo-jae, a former advisor to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, regarding his involvement in the confinement and assault of an elderly woman.
Lim received a sentence of one year in prison, suspended for two years. The ruling follows an incident in April last year in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, where an elderly woman in her 80s was confined and assaulted. The primary perpetrator, a shaman identified as A, allegedly used the victim's grandson to carry out the crimes following a conflict with the victim's son. The shaman also reportedly staged a fake disappearance involving the victim's granddaughter to obstruct police investigations.
While the first instance court sentenced Lim to one year in prison, the second instance court reduced this to a suspended sentence, determining that Lim acted as an aider rather than a co-principal. The court noted his involvement was passive and he did not derive direct benefit from the crimes. Other individuals involved, including the shaman and the grandson, received prison sentences of five years and two years and four months, respectively.
