Peru election results remain uncertain amid disputed tally sheets
The 2026 regional and municipal elections in Peru remain in a state of uncertainty as various jurisdictions process disputed tally sheets. In Lima, the mayoral race between Rafael López Aliaga and Francisco Allison is currently undecided. While López Aliaga holds a narrow lead of approximately 45,000 votes, nearly 2,000 tally sheets remain under review by electoral tribunals.
In other regions, the situation remains tense. In Piura, candidate Santiago Paz has alleged planned sabotage during the vote count in San Juan de Bigote. In Arequipa, a second round of voting has been scheduled for November 29 to determine the regional governor, as no candidate surpassed the required 30% threshold in the first round.
Logistically, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has confirmed that all polling station members will receive 165 soles in compensation. Meanwhile, local offices in Huánuco and La Molina have reported the successful completion of tally sheet processing and the secure return of electoral materials, respectively.
