Lima Mayor Renzo Reggiardo pursues municipal police model and local security coordination

Lima Mayor Renzo Reggiardo is advancing initiatives to improve urban security and order through both local coordination and international cooperation.

In preparation for the 2026 Christmas campaign, Reggiardo met with representatives from major commercial hubs, including Mesa Redonda, Mercado Central, and Triángulo de Grau. The discussions focused on maintaining order, public safety, and the preservation of public spaces in these high-traffic zones.

To support his proposal for a specialized Municipal Police in Lima, Reggiardo also met with officials from the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The meeting aimed to study the Buenos Aires City Police model, specifically regarding its community relationship and crime response strategies. Reggiardo noted that the creation of a municipal force to handle minor crimes and traffic control has received support from various transport and merchant unions, as well as discussions with President Keiko Fujimori.
