Lima mayoral candidates set for JNE debate in September

The National Jury of Elections (JNE) has finalized the participation order for the upcoming Lima mayoral debate, scheduled for September 21 and 22 at the National Library of Peru in San Borja. The event will feature 26 candidates divided into two sessions of 13 participants each. The debate format includes individual presentations, interactions through duels and trios, responses to citizen questions, and closing statements.

Rafael López Aliaga, running as a first councilor candidate for Lima under Renovación Popular, has confirmed his participation in the debate. He noted that his candidacy carries no legal impediment to assuming the mayoralty should a vacancy occur. The debate is part of the preparations for the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections.
