Lima mayoral election count reaches 95% as candidates respond
The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has reported 95.059% of votes counted in the Lima mayoral election. Rafael López Aliaga of Renovación Popular currently holds the lead with 27.773%, followed by Francis Allison of Avanza País with 26.836%. Carlos Bruce of Somos Perú remains in third place with 15.176%.
Francis Allison has publicly stated he will not join a government led by López Aliaga, citing deep ideological differences. Allison described the two political leaders as being ‘like water and oil’ and clarified that while he respects the democratic process, he will not accept any positions within a Renovación Popular administration.
Regarding the electoral process, 1,303 election records have been sent to Special Electoral Juries (JEE) for evaluation. Allison noted that he lacks the necessary funding to challenge approximately 500 contested records, which would require an estimated 250,000 soles for oversight.
