Lima McDonald’s attack: Venezuelan man reports homophobic threats

A Venezuelan national, Reinaldo Rivas, and his partner, Cristhian Palomino, reported being victims of a homophobic attack and death threats while dining at a McDonald’s restaurant in Lima, Peru.

Video footage captured an unidentified man approaching the couple and shouting discriminatory insults, claiming that “homosexuality is a sin” and stating that those who practice it “will go to hell.” During the confrontation, the aggressor reportedly made threatening gestures and verbal threats, including the phrase “I’ll kill you.”

Witnesses at the scene recorded the incident, and restaurant staff intervened to prevent the situation from escalating into physical violence. Rivas has filed a formal complaint with Peruvian authorities, noting that the attack appeared to be motivated by both his sexual orientation and his status as a foreign national. LGBTQ+ organizations have condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation.
