Lima Metro expansion progresses with Line 2 developments

The expansion of the Lima and Callao Metro system is progressing, with significant developments reported for Line 2. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that the San Marcos station has reached 82% overall progress, with civil works at 96%. This station is expected to benefit over 45,000 students at the National University of San Marcos by providing faster and safer transit.

Other stations in the second stage of Line 2, located in Callao and Lima, have also reported civil work progress exceeding 95%. Once completed, Line 2 will connect Ate with Callao, offering a modern alternative to existing transport methods.

Long-term planning for the city involves creating a comprehensive network of four lines totaling approximately 120 kilometers. This network would include Line 1 (34.6 km), Line 2 (27 km), Line 3 (35 km), and Line 4 (23.6 km). ProInversión estimates that Lines 3 and 4 alone could directly benefit more than seven million residents, with Line 3 potentially connecting Comas to San Juan de Miraflores in 56 minutes.
