Lima Metro Line 4 reaches major tunnel breakthrough milestone

Webuild and its consortium partners have completed the final tunnel breakthrough on a section of Line 4 of the Lima Metro. The milestone was achieved as the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Micaela arrived at the Carmen de la Legua Station, which is intended to serve as a future interchange between Lines 2 and 4.

The excavation project, conducted alongside TBM Delia, involved drilling over 20km of tunnels beneath Lima, connecting the Province to the Port of Callao through several main districts. The project, commissioned by Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, includes 35km of lines in total.

Once operational, the new metro routes are expected to significantly reduce travel times between Ate and Callao from 2 hours and 45 minutes to approximately 45 minutes, serving ten districts across the metropolitan area.
