Lima Municipality and McDonald’s lead Rímac River cleanup

The Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, in collaboration with McDonald’s and various strategic partners, conducted a cleanup initiative titled ‘Unidos por el Río Rímac’ to recover the banks of the Rímac River.

Participants included representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations, and youth groups, such as Expresa Lima and the Association of Scouts of Peru. Volunteers collected tons of waste, segregating materials like plastics, cardboard, and organic matter for recycling and final disposal. The effort aims to reduce waste accumulation in the fluvial ecosystem and prevent debris from being washed into the sea during periods of increased river flow.

In addition to waste removal, the initiative included the creation of a mural to raise awareness about water resource conservation and the removal of graffiti to restore the appearance of the river's boundary walls.
