Lima Regional Government to Hold Runoff Election

The Lima Regional Government will hold a runoff election to determine its next governor and vice-governor. Following the completion of the vote count by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), two candidates have advanced to the second round: Andrés Tello Velazco of Somos Perú and Javier Alvarado Gonzales del Valle of the Renovación Popular and Toro alliance.

The official results show a narrow margin, with Tello receiving 93,171 valid votes (16.31%) and Alvarado receiving 91,643 valid votes (16.04%), a difference of 1,528 votes. Because no candidate secured a broad majority, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) has scheduled the runoff for Sunday, December 6, 2026.

The outcome will decide the leadership responsible for regional investments, infrastructure, health, and education across the Lima region, including provinces such as Barranca.
