Lima to add eight cable‑car lines linking hillside neighborhoods to metro system
The Autoridad de Transporte Urbano para Lima y Callao (ATU) has proposed a network of eight teleféricos (cable‑car lines) covering 46.8 km to connect hillside districts with Lima’s mass‑transit infrastructure. The plan, part of the 2025‑2045 Urban Mobility Plan, targets integration with the Metro, the Metropolitano BRT and additional bus corridors.
Priority projects include a six‑kilometre line between San Martín de Porres and San Juan de Lurigancho, a 7.4‑km Lurigancho‑San Juan line, a 3.9‑km Lurigancho line, a 1.5‑km La Victoria–El Agustino line, a 3.2‑km and a 7.8‑km segment linking Villa María del Triunfo to Pachacámac (including Manchay), an 8‑km Comas–San Juan line, and an 8.9‑km Ventanilla–Puente Piedra line. Collectively the system would serve more than 950,000 residents, shorten travel times and improve access to natural, ecotourism and archaeological sites.
